Evan Sherman Jazz Quartet at Carlmont

On Friday October 25, Carlmont hosted the Evan Sherman Jazz Quartet.  Evan is a New York-based drummer who has performed with Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove.  The musicians accompanying him were three of the top jazz players currently enrolled in Juilliard, Anthony Hervey (trumpet), Sean Mason (piano), and Felix Moseholm (bass).

The guest artists performed an hour-long concert and Q&A for 100 of the top musicians at Carlmont from the Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. The New York guests then rehearsed the Jazz Ensemble and spent considerable time with individual players offering advice on technique, mental and emotional approach, and artistic philosophy.  The guests were unbelievably talented, mature, gifted, articulate, humble and wise beyond their years.

Our students were mesmerized and, for many, the day was a life-changing event. The guests were also moved by the experience and consider the visit to Carlmont a highlight of their California tour.
